If It Ain't His Will I Don't Want It | Verse by Verse
Verse by Verse is a new series where I walk through the songs that I am currently meditating on.
I was so afraid, living my life my way
Taking all the wrong turns, but end up in the right place
Because your love was there to pick me up
Now I want what you want
If it ain’t your will, if ain’t your will
I don’t want it
I have been loving Christian R&B lately. One of the artists that I’ve come across is Lee Vasi. You can check out her most recent project here.
One of the songs on that project is Your Will. This song has been on repeat for me lately. Especially because I received news that some things I had been praying for did not work out how I expected them to.
Instead of getting upset with God, I was at peace because I knew that if God was not allowing it to happen, it was for a reason.
Would it be nice to know the reason? Of course. But in this season, I care less about "why not" and more about "what should be."
The old me would have broken down crying, begging God to answer “Why?”
“Why aren’t you showing up for me?”
“Why aren’t you answering my prayers?”
“Why does everything have to be so hard?”
Instead, I was grateful.
“Thank you, God, for saving me from what I couldn’t see.”
“Thank you, Father, for ordering my steps.”
“Thank you, Lord, for peace that surpasses my limited understanding.”
Sometimes when things don’t work out the way we hoped, we go into overdrive trying to make something out of nothing. Instead, we should take this time to check our motives and desires and be sure that our will is still aligned with God’s.
Because at the end of the day, if it ain’t His will…I don’t want it.
Here are a few scriptures that have helped me in this area:
'You can make many plans, but the Lord ’s purpose will prevail. ' - Proverbs 19:21
'I take joy in doing your will, my God, for your instructions are written on my heart.” '- Psalms 40:8
'And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus. ' - Philippians 4:19
'You won’t spend the rest of your lives chasing your own desires, but you will be anxious to do the will of God. ' - 1 Peter 4:2
