Sunday Reflections
Trust: a firm belief in the character, strength, or truth of someone or something
What false god have you erected due to a refusal (whether intentionally or unintentionally) to trust that God is who He says He is?
Okay, sorry. I know that came off a bit strong.
But, here’s the thing…
Any version of God that we have created in our heads due to our limited thinking or earthly experiences, that goes against what He says in His word, is not really God at all.
God’s word says that He is sovereign. Do you trust that? Or do you doubt His power and authority due to your life’s current circumstances?
God’s word says that He is good. Do you trust that? Or do you doubt His goodness due to your life’s current circumstances?
God’s word says that He is a healer. Do you trust that? Or do you doubt His ability to heal you due to your life’s current circumstances?
There is only one true and living God and He tells us who He is in His word. Because of His transcendence (ability to be beyond the range or limits of something), because His ways are not our ways and His thoughts are not our thoughts, it can hard for us to UNDERSTAND everything about His character or His attributes.
But a lack of understanding is not reason enough for us to not trust that He is who He says He is (Proverbs 3:5-6).
“Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track.” - Proverbs 3:5-6 MSG
So the questions I want you to ponder today are:
How has my perception or belief about God been influenced by what I’ve experienced in this life?
Is there any attribute of God that I struggle to lay hold of due to my current circumstances?
Be encouraged that God is not a man that He should lie. He’s the same yesterday, today, and forever. He’s the I AM THAT I AM.
We can believe He’s good just because He says He is.
We can believe He’s just just because He says He is.
We can be He loves us just because He says He does.
So, what would your life look like if you fully trusted that God is who He says He is?
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
If I am honest, sometimes I struggle to believe that you are who you say you are. I know your word is true, but sometimes my heart and mind feel distant from that truth. Lord, help me in my unbelief. Remind me of who you are—faithful, loving, and always present, even when I can’t feel it.
Help me to remember that you are unchanging and your promises never fail. Quiet the doubts in my mind and replace them with the peace that comes from knowing you are with me.
Thank you for your patience and grace with me, even when I falter. I trust that you are working In my life.
In Jesus’ name, I pray
Amen!
